In collaboration with ABB Group, a power grid supplier, GM will study how batteries that will have formerly powered Volt electric cars will get a second life, being capable to store energy generated by solar and wind power generators.

GM is currently in talks with Google for a joint venture to develop an integrated car system based on the Android OS, of which you may have heard lately. They also say Android is going to be animating Chevy Volt’s interface.

GM to Research Shape Memory Alloy for Heat Recovery Systems

GM’s R&D has to build a prototype of a thermo-mechanical waste heat recovery system using a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) heat engine to generate electricity from the heat in exhaust. Noticeable is the fact that GM was between the 37 other candidates that received the ARPA-E award.
