When it comes to home improvement there are many options available for going green, from windows and doors to insulation and paint. The garage door, the biggest door in your home, is no exception. There are a number of ways you can go green with your garage door. Two options that can make the biggest impact are making energy efficient upgrades or entirely replacing your garage door.
Upgrade Your Garage Door
If your garage feels like an icebox in the winter or a sauna in the summer this means your garage door has become a vampire, but instead of blood it sucks up energy. While you may only use your garage for storage space, any adjacent rooms will feel the temperature impact by the free flowing cold or hot air.
To make your garage door more energy efficient, pick up weather stripping and rubber molding from the hardware store and apply it along the seams of the door. You want to create a barrier against the elements. To test that you sealed the door properly run your hand along the seams during a windy day to feel for draft. You’ll be surprised at just how big a difference this minor change can make.
