Technically I’m not sure if there’s ever been a vote for the MOST eco-friendly essential oil, but in my opinion tea tree essential oil would likely win. Not because it’s harvested in a particularly eco-friendly manner but because tea tree oil can replace so many worse things in your home. You can use it for cleaning, good health, and all sorts of other things due to its antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.
For example…
- Sprinkle it on a cloth and use it in your dryer thus eliminating over-packaged and often chemically laden dryer sheets.
- Mix a few drops of natural soap, 2 cups water, and 15 drops each of tea tree and lavender essential oil (or you can use 30 straight drops of tea tree). Spray on all surfaces; cutting boards, counters, toilets, walls, and more. This will disinfects but is safer than chemical disinfectants.
- To eliminate the medications you need (and their packaging) you can use tea tree oil to treat sunburns, athlete’s foot, toothache, colds, and more. For example, to treat the flu or a bad cold, mix 5-6 drops tea tree essential oil, 3 drops lavender essential oil, and 2 drops thyme in a warm bath and soak away. You can also put this mix on a washcloth and use it in the shower. Overall, no matter how you us it, this mix helps to sooth achy muscles, clear sinuses, and relax your body.
- Get rid of musty suitcase smells. If your old suitcase smells musty fill it with crumpled newspaper and let it sit for a week. Then fill a mister bottle with water, add a few drops of tea tree oil, and lightly spray the case and leave it open to dry.
- For beauty applications tea tree oil works as an acne treatment (just a little dab on your skin) and helps keep a dry scalp healthier and less itchy. You can also make a cleansing tea tree sugar scrub.
SAFETY NOTE: You should never ever use any sort of essential oil on your body or to treat a health problem without first doing some research. Read Essential Oil Safety Guide before you get started. To see more ideas about how to use tea tree oil just about everywhere read The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy: Over 600 Natural, Non-Toxic and Fragrant Recipes to Create Health – Beauty – a Safe Home Environment. Long title- excellent book.
